The rule behind the numbers
Federal law pays 1.5 times your $15 rate, $22.50, for every hour past 40 in a workweek. Hours over 8 in a day earn nothing extra unless you're in California, Alaska, Nevada or Colorado, which the calculator above handles when you pick the state. Overtime is figured per week, never averaged across a pay period.
The tax side
The last column is what the 2025 law lets you deduct if you worked that much overtime every week of the year: only the $7.50 premium per hour counts, capped at $12,500.
